The Ladies of Carter Acres
Here are the producing broodmares of Carter Acres.
Click on photos for individual pedigrees and progeny.
Sangria is a young mare that promises to be very productive. Sangria was purchased from the Lee Elliott ranch in Wyoming. So far three foals that we know of have been selected to be used in breeding programs; pretty high praise!
Peanut, as Jewel is more commonly called, is the spitting image of her mother, Karat. From the looks of it, she's going to be a stellar producer as well. Dispositions on her foals have been amazing and we have photo evidence of the first being so quiet a little 5 year old was leading him around a week after weaning and the second as a yearling had a two year old little girl leading her around!
Without a doubt one of the prettiest mares we've ever raised. She injured her shoulder as a foal and after a host of vet work, massage, MagnaWave, and chiropractor visits, we have determined she has too much scar tissue to ride. However, she is a gorgeous mare with a pedigree to produce some outstanding versatility prospects.
Lady Collins is a big, beautiful dun broodmare. She has some legendary cow horses in her pedigree. She was injured in wire and has scars on her back legs, but gets around fine. Now owned by our son, Quincy. Kyerra and Hunter have two foals out of this mare that they are enjoying a lot.
Aspen as this young mare is affectionately called, is a stocky, beautiful mare. She was a bit of a challenge to start, largely because we made some pretty big mistakes with her training. She has since come around but if you're going to ride her, you better be dang handy in the saddle or you won't stay on! With two foals to her name, she promises to throw her beautiful dun factor!
Spice is a gorgeous young mare that is proving herself as a broodmare. She has raised two blue roan stud colts and a blue filly for us so far and has done a wonderful job. Stellar foundation breeding in a complete package; she will produce riders! Her 2024 filly was selected for a replacement filly.
JoJo has been our most productive daughter of Queen Jessamun. She hadn't missed foaling until last year but hey, she's currently 23 years old! She frequently has the high seller in our sale. Her colts have gone as far west as Idaho and as far east as Maryland. We also have two daughters in our broodmare band and hoping for another to keep in 2025!
We found Lexus in the Kist sale in Mandan; her mother originated at the Lazy JS Ranch and traces back to some early Stearns breeding....horses that have excelled in the rodeo arena for years. Lexus produced a beautiful red roan filly in 2021 and did an exceptional job raising her; she will be a standout broodmare. As a young mare, she has already raised a couple sale toppers!
Sheba is our first riding and producing daughter of CA Skye Blue. She was a dream to start and was able to be ridden at a futurity with just a dozen rides under her cinch. She handled the environment beautifully and we can't wait to see her first foal in the spring of 2025 by Spur!
Champagne is one of the quietest mares on the place and is proving herself in the broodmare pen. We're excited to see what her 2021 daughter CA Piper will do in the Ranch Horse Extravaganza; she's gorgeous and such a honey! We have actually kept three daughters but have been talked out of two of them!
Everyone loves Scoria. She is the first choice for anyone who doesn't ride much and she takes care of them well. She can "flip a switch" so to speak, though, and get a day's work done when more agility and athleticism is needed. CA Champagne is a daughter.
We found Duchess at the Twin Cities Horse Sale but we had seen her as a gorgeous foal; she just wasn't for sale then! She is out of our beloved Queenie mare. We picked her up and it turned out to be a good decision as she raised one of the top sellers in 2020 and we retained her 2021 and 2023 foals for futurity purposes!
Kitty is the result of pairing our best producing broodmare with Cat Smart Boonsmal. She was supposed to be blue...but she's pretty fancy regardless. She placed 12th in a yearling futurity in a class of 47 and with limited riding is quiet enough for most anyone. We can't wait to see her foals.
If there was a contest for the most beautiful mare, Karat would win. Faultless conformation and a talented athlete, this mare is proving to be a wonderful broodmare as well. She was used for a training clinic as a 3-year old and behaved better than many of the seasoned horses there!
One of only two Fancy Cut Diamonds daughters left on the place, Vixie has proven an exceptional broodmare, outproducing herself. She was kind and quiet enough for our teenage daughter to start for a 4-H youth training project that advanced to the MN State Fair.
Sapphire is the only daughter of Diamond and has a special place in our hearts. The night Sapphire was born, Nada woke bolt upright in bed. Seeing nothing wrong, she went back to bed only to be awoken again. She checked the barn and Sapphire had been born but hadn't nursed....she was mad as a little hornet. God gave us just what we ordered. He is Good.
Beautiful producing daughter of RC. She had a gorgeous blue roan stallion by Skye in 2024. Unfortunately we lost him to a respiratory illness in August. Bred back the same way for 2025.
Pip Squeak is an absolutely gorgeous broodmare. Keen headed with big doe eyes and a HUGE barrel, she is a powerhouse! If she can't raise a team roping horse, nothing will!
Photo to Come.
Sophie is a young mare that had some tough luck and banged up a back leg. However, she is fully capable of raising babies. Her first this year was third high selling filly at the Dakota 50/50 Sale in Valley City, ND.
Nissa will be coming in with her first foal in 2024. We're excited for her future in our band.
Ellie came in with her first foal in 2023 as just a three year old. She did a great job taking care of him and promises to be an excellent broodmare, just like her Grandma Queenie!
We sold Minx as a foal and are so excited that Quincy was able to buy her back. 2023 was the first foal she raised for us and she is such a beauty that we kept her as a replacement filly! 2024 will bring a foal by Skye; can't wait to see it!
