We had two new arrivals this morning! And the two mares were radically different in the way they accepted us checking them out! Sapphire, pictured here, had no problem with us loving on her new baby. In fact she loved the attention too! Pip Squeak, on the other hand, was very protective....she was hyper alert and at one time, even bumped me to get me away from the baby. However, when we backed off a little bit and gave her a little time to think, approached her slowly (but not like a predator), she calmed down and we were able to handle and love on her baby too. Just like people, horses have different personalities and we need to respect that and act accordingly.
